What was this area like before? I know it had been an addition, but can you clarify what part of the space you added on to? Can you express the house as it was before?

The current house is a charming arts-and-crafts design home. The client’s present bedroom was on the second floor with the other bedrooms. The hot tub in the backyard required additional privacy and easiness to get to. The back and side patio offer some nice comfort, so we sited the addition to make the most of the natural flow from the living area.

What were the client’s needs and desires for this project?

The clients wished to have their master suite on the initial floor. They love the neighborhood they reside in, and this addition enables them to stay there as long as as they like. Other desires included a wood burning hearth surrounded by custom built-in shelves in the master bedroom. The bathroom had to have a spa type vibe but also be pretty functional.

Describe the bathroom’s layout as well as design.

The bathroom was one of the vital design pieces to the project. We included volume and excitement by vaulting the ceiling above the shower and also soaking tub to really produce a focal point and location for these major factors to play off each other. The siting and also design of high spaces works by using an abundance of natural lights while keeping the space non-public.

What are some of the materials as well as finishings used in the space? Where have you source them from?

The tiles are an exquisite selection by the clients and as they definitely add to the language of arts-and-crafts along with the wall tiles are handcrafted. Brass and also copper plumbing together with light fixtures are a all-natural fit for the space and the discolored oak casework and windows match the rich texture throughout.

Tell me regarding the bathtub—it’s awesome!

The client loves to get a soaking bath so this tub delivers. Its lovely copper finish creates a cozy and clean appearance and also complements well the discolored oak trim and tile. The design and finish of the tub is effective as a free positioned object adjacent to a curbless shower.

A red light appears to be a unique choice in a bathroom—any reason behind it?

We enjoy bringing a little bit of elegance to bathrooms and considered an unique light fixture over the bathtub would add to the calming sensation in this space.
